About Our Company

Earth Big Data was founded in 2015 to address the big environmental challenges of our time by providing access to modern computational tools and that mine large Earth observation data sets. We are fully cloud-based and committed to open-source solutions that are scalable, flexible and optimized to a wide range of budgets, deadlines, and objectives. With the launch of the Sentinel-1A satellite in 2014, we recognized the opportunity and advantages of analyzing greater and greater amounts of openly available geospatial data. We also recognized that organizations would need help in bridging the gap between their on-premise systems and the power and breadth of the Cloud for big data analysis.

  • “We have been working with the Earth Big Data team for several years and learned the benefits of using their software for implementing complex workflows for daily flood and ocean wind monitoring. The software has really helped us with scaling our SAR analyses. We are now working with Earth Big Data within NOAA to test migrating legacy code into the Cloud, and the software is an ideal tool for aiding this complex migration. Our personnel were able to quickly learn the Earth Big Data software saving time and allowing us to manage resources effectively.”

  • “We knew we needed to move to the Cloud for our ever increasing requirement to store and process large data sets but were not sure how to actually make the transition. We searched for a solution and Earth Big Data's software stood out to us. The ease with which we can deploy our Jupyter developed scripts in a Linux native way and scale processing to match our largely open source configuration has been remarkable. For us, using Earth Big Data software has meant we can stay focused on our science. The customer training and support is excellent and the team is more than willing to help.”

  • “Between having our own airborne SAR system and with NISAR on the horizon, we recognized the necessity to adopt cloud processing for our projects. With Earth Big Data’s software and training course we had practically no Cloud learning curve and quickly became operational in the Cloud. The Linux-style interface removed a big barrier by allowing us to easily deploy and manage credentials, user accounts, and resources. We were able to quickly embrace the toolset for cloud scaling and take advantage of the pre-integration with GAMMA remote sensing software and geospatial open source programs.”

Our Founder

Dr. Kellndorfer is President and Principal Scientist of Earth Big Data LLC. His research focuses on monitoring and assessing terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems and disseminating Earth observation data products to researchers, resource managers and policy makers to improve decision making and support capacity building. He is a distinguished visiting scientist at the Woodwell Climate Research Center and currently serves on various expert working groups within NASA, NOAA, the Japanese Space Agency JAXA, and on the NISAR Science Team to advance the use of remote-sensing technology for natural resource mapping and monitoring. He founded Earth Big Data LLC in 2015 to provide scalable solutions to modern data-mining challenges. Dr Kellndorfer is a Senior Member of the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society and a Kavli Frontiers of Science Fellow.
